Mehta’s death exposed the administrative apathy and delayed emergency response as he stood on the roof of his car for around 90 minutes, waiting for help.
Yuvraj didn’t know how to swim but managed to climb on the roof of his SUV. He called his father to inform him about the incident. His father and the police reached the spot within minutes of the incident but he still could not be saved.
According to reports, the SDRF team arrived at the spot when Yuvraj was still alive and shouting for help but they didn’t attempt the rescue in the absence of required equipment.
By the time the NDRF arrived and started the rescue operation, he had drowned, sparking massive public outrage over the administrative failure to save him.
Following the criticism, the state government formed an SIT to probe the incident and fix accountability.
“SIT has started doing its work, and we will present the report in the next five days. We are speaking to everyone concerned in this. We will find out the reasons which led to this incident. We have just started the investigation, and the report will be submitted once we finish our investigation…,” Bhanu Bhaskar, ADG, Meerut Zone and SIT Team Head said.
The SUV car was later recovered by the NDRF team and loaded in a truck.

Rahul Gandhi flags lack of accountability
Reacting to the incident, Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi alleged that India’s urban infrastructure collapse is due to a lack of accountability.
“Roads kill. Bridges kill. Fires kill. Water kills. Pollution kills. Corruption kills. Indifference kills. India’s urban collapse isn’t about lack of money, technology, or solutions. It’s about a lack of accountability. TINA: There Is No Accountability,” he said on X.
